Philmont Summary

History

Philmont, New York is a small village located in Columbia County, New York. It is situated in the Taconic Mountains, and is part of the Hudson Valley region. The village was first settled in 1762 by Dutch settlers, and was originally known as “Philip’s Town” after Philip Van Rensselaer, the patroon of the area. The village was officially incorporated in 1818, and was named after Philip’s son, Philip Schuyler Van Rensselaer.
The village of Philmont has a long and rich history. During the Revolutionary War, the village was a major supply depot for the Continental Army.
