History

The first settlers in the area of Lisle were the Iroquois Indians. The first white settlers arrived in the area in 1786. The town of Lisle was formed in 1821 from the town of Union. The town was named after Lisle, France.

Geography

Lisle is located in the western part of Broome County, New York. It is bordered by the towns of Union, Maine, and Triangle. The town has a total area of 33.2 square miles, of which 33.1 square miles is land and 0.1 square miles is water. The highest point in the town is an unnamed hill in the northwest corner of the town, with an elevation of 1,890 feet above sea level.

Economy

The economy of Lisle is largely based on agriculture. The town is home to several farms, including dairy farms, vegetable farms, and fruit farms. The town also has several small businesses, including a gas station, a convenience store, and a few restaurants.
