The area that is now Lindenhurst was originally inhabited by the Secatogue Indians. The first European settlers arrived in the area in the late 1600s. The area was known as Breslau, after the city in Germany, and was part of the Town of Babylon. In 1891, the village was incorporated as the Village of Lindenhurst.
