Freeville Summary

Freeville, NY is a small village located in Tompkins County, New York. It is situated on the east side of Cayuga Lake, about 10 miles south of the city of Ithaca. The village has a population of about 1,000 people and is part of the Town of Dryden.

History

The area that is now Freeville was first settled in 1791 by a group of settlers from Connecticut. The village was originally known as “Free Town” and was later changed to Freeville. The village was incorporated in 1827.
In the early 19th century, Freeville was a thriving agricultural community. The village was home to several mills, including a grist mill, a saw mill, and a woolen mill. The village also had a blacksmith shop, a tannery, and a general store.
