Frankfort is a village located in Herkimer County, New York, United States. The population was 2,936 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Utica–Rome Metropolitan Statistical Area.

History

The area was first settled around 1725 by Palatine German immigrants. The village was incorporated in 1852.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 1.2 square miles (3.1 km2), all of it land.

Demographics

As of the census of 2000, there were 2,936 people, 1,093 households, and 745 families residing in the village. The population density was 2,521.2 people per square mile (973.2/km2). There were 1,164 housing units at an average density of 990.2 per square mile (382.2/km2). The racial makeup of the village was 97.45% White, 0.48% African American, 0.17% Native American, 0.48% Asian, 0.03% Pacific Islander, 0.48% from other races, and 0.91% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.41% of the population.
There were 1,093 households, out of which 33.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 51.2% were married couples living together, 12.2% had a female householder with no husband present, and 32.2% were non-families. 27.2% of all households were made up of individuals, and 13.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.50 and the average family size was 3.03.
In the village, the population was spread out, with 24.7% under the age of 18, 7.2% from 18 to 24, 28.7% from 25 to 44, 21.7% from 45 to 64, and 17.7% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 38 years. For every 100 females, there were 87.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 84.2 males.
The median income for a household in the village was $37,917, and the median income for a family was $45,938. Males had a median income of $32,917 versus $25,000 for females. The per capita income for the village was $17,945. About 6.2% of families and 8.2% of the population were below the poverty line, including 10.2% of those under age 18 and 8.2% of those age 65 or over.

The village is served by the Frankfort-Schuyler Central School District, which includes Frankfort Elementary School, Frankfort Middle School, and Frankfort High School. The district also serves the neighboring village of Schuyler.
Frankfort is also home to a number of parks and recreational facilities, including the Frankfort-Schuyler Little League, the Frankfort-Schuyler Soccer Club, and the Frankfort-Schuyler Youth Football League. The village also has a number of churches, including the First Presbyterian Church, the United Methodist Church, and the St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church.
