History

The area that is now East Greenbush was originally inhabited by the Mohican Indians. The first European settlers arrived in the area in the late 17th century. The town was established in 1791 as the Town of Greenbush, and was later divided into two separate towns, East Greenbush and West Greenbush.

Geography

East Greenbush is located in the eastern part of Rensselaer County, New York. It is bordered by the towns of North Greenbush to the north, Schodack to the east, Nassau to the south, and West Sand Lake to the west. The town is located approximately 10 miles east of the city of Albany.
The town has a total area of 24.2 square miles, of which 24.1 square miles is land and 0.1 square miles is water. The town is located in the Hudson Valley region of New York, and is part of the Albany-Schenectady-Troy Metropolitan Statistical Area.
