The name is said to be a Mohawk language term meaning "the pot that washes itself," referring to the Canajoharie Creek.

Geography

Canajoharie is located at 42°55′N 74°45′W (42.914, -74.749). According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 1.2 square miles (3.1 km2), all of it land.
The village is located on the Mohawk River, which is part of the Erie Canal system. The village is located at the intersection of New York State Route 5S and New York State Route 10.

Economy

The economy of Canajoharie is largely based on agriculture and manufacturing. The village is home to several large manufacturing companies, including Beech-Nut, a baby food manufacturer, and the Canajoharie-based Beech-Nut Nutrition Corporation.
