Geography
Campbell is located in the western part of Steuben County, bordered by the towns of Avoca to the north, Hornellsville to the east, Wayland to the south, and Cohocton to the west. According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 36.2sqmi, of which 36.1sqmi is land and 0.1sqmi, or 0.22%, is water.

History
The area that is now Campbell was first settled around 1790. The town of Campbell was formed in 1812 from the town of Avoca.
Demographics
As of the census of 2000, there were 1,919 people, 745 households, and 545 families residing in the town. The population density was 53.2 people per square mile (20.6/km^2). There were 845 housing units at an average density of 23.3 per square mile (9.0/km^2). The racial makeup of the town was 98.44% White, 0.21% African American, 0.05% Native American, 0.21% Asian, 0.05% Pacific Islander, 0.21% from other races, and 0.84% from two or more races.
