Kindred Summary
Kindred is a small city located in Cass County, North Dakota, United States. It is part of the Fargo-Moorhead metropolitan area. The population was 1,068 at the 2010 census.
History
The area that is now Kindred was first settled in 1878 by Norwegian immigrants. The town was originally named "Nordland" after the Norwegian province of Nordland. In 1881, the name was changed to Kindred, after the Kindred Lutheran Church, which was founded in 1879.
The town was incorporated in 1883 and the first mayor was Ole O. Olson. The first post office was established in 1884.

The economy of Kindred is largely based on agriculture. The city is home to several grain elevators and a feed mill.
The city is also home to several small businesses, including a hardware store, a grocery store, a restaurant, and a bank.

As of the census of 2010, there were 1,068 people, 441 households, and 287 families residing in the city. The population density was 1,521.4 people per square mile (586.7/km2). There were 471 housing units at an average density of 671.4 per square mile (259.3/km2). The racial makeup of the city was 97.2% White, 0.3% African American, 0.3% Native American, 0.3% Asian, 0.3% from other races, and 1.5% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.2% of the population.
There were 441 households, out of which 28.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 51.6% were married couples living together, 8.6% had a female householder with no husband present, and 36.2% were non-families. 32.2% of all households were made up of individuals, and 16.3% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.41 and the average family size was 3.06.
In the city, the population was spread out, with 25.2% under the age of 18, 6.2% from 18 to 24, 25.2% from 25 to 44, 24.2% from 45 to 64, and 19.2% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 40 years. For every 100 females, there were 94.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 91.2 males.
The median income for a household in the city was $37,500, and the median income for a family was $45,000. Males had a median income of $30,000 versus $21,250 for females.
