Pierron Summary

Pierron is a small village located in Madison County, Illinois, United States. It is situated on the banks of the Kaskaskia River, approximately 25 miles east of St. Louis. The population of Pierron was 1,093 at the 2010 census.

History

Pierron was founded in 1855 by German immigrants who had settled in the area. The village was named after Pierre Menard, the first lieutenant governor of Illinois. The first settlers were mostly farmers, and the village grew slowly over the years. In 1872, the first post office was established, and the village was incorporated in 1876.
In the late 19th century, Pierron was a thriving agricultural community. The village was home to several businesses, including a general store, a blacksmith shop, a sawmill, and a grist mill. The village also had a school, a church, and a hotel.

Geography

Pierron is located at 38°45'25" North, 89°45'25" West (38.756944, -89.756944). The village is situated on the banks of the Kaskaskia River, approximately 25 miles east of St. Louis. The village has a total area of 0.7 square miles, all of which is land.
