Riceboro Summary

Riceboro is a small city located in Liberty County, Georgia, United States. It is situated on the banks of the Medway River, about 25 miles south of Savannah. The city has a population of 1,845 as of the 2010 census.

History

Riceboro was founded in 1820 by a group of settlers from South Carolina. The town was named after the rice plantations that were located in the area. The town was incorporated in 1872 and was the county seat of Liberty County until 1876.
Riceboro was a major port for the export of rice and other agricultural products. The town was also a major center for the timber industry. In the late 19th century, the town was home to several sawmills and lumber companies.
