Land O Lakes, Florida is a census-designated place located in Pasco County, Florida. It is located about 20 miles north of Tampa and is part of the Tampa-St. Petersburg-Clearwater Metropolitan Statistical Area. The population of Land O Lakes was 22,468 as of the 2010 census.

History

The area that is now Land O Lakes was originally inhabited by the Tocobaga people, who were part of the larger Timucua tribe. The Tocobaga lived in the area until the late 17th century, when they were displaced by Spanish settlers. The area was then part of the Spanish colony of Florida until 1821, when it became part of the United States.
In the late 19th century, the area was settled by homesteaders, who established farms and ranches. The area was known as "Cow Creek" until the early 20th century, when it was renamed "Land O Lakes" after the nearby lake.

Geography

Land O Lakes is located at 28°19'N 82°30'W (28.3167, -82.5000). It is situated in the northern part of Pasco County, about 20 miles north of Tampa. The city is bordered by the cities of Lutz to the north, Wesley Chapel to the east, and Zephyrhills to the south.
The city has a total area of 11.2 square miles, of which 10.9 square miles is land and 0.3 square miles is water. The city is located in the flatwoods region of Florida, with a mix of pine and hardwood forests. The city is home to several lakes, including Lake Padgett, Lake Thomas, and Lake Saxon.

Land O Lakes is a rapidly growing suburban community, with a strong economy based on retail, healthcare, and professional services. The city is home to several large employers, including Publix Super Markets, Florida Hospital, and the Pasco County School Board.
The city is also home to several shopping centers, including the Land O Lakes Shopping Center, the Land O Lakes Town Center, and the Land O Lakes Marketplace.

As of the 2010 census, there were 22,468 people, 8,845 households, and 6,541 families residing in the city. The population density was 2,039.2 people per square mile. The racial makeup of the city was 87.2% White, 5.3% African American, 0.4% Native American, 2.2% Asian, 0.1% Pacific Islander, 2.7% from other races, and 2.1% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 11.2% of the population.
