In the early 1900s, the area was known as Saratoga, and was a popular destination for wealthy San Franciscans looking to escape the city. The area was known for its hot springs, and the Saratoga Hot Springs Hotel was built in the area in the late 1800s. The hotel was destroyed in the 1906 San Francisco earthquake, but the area remained popular with wealthy San Franciscans.
In the 1920s, the area was developed as a residential community, and the city of Saratoga was incorporated in 1956. The city has grown steadily since then, and is now a popular residential community in the Silicon Valley.
